If Issue One was all about ‘Firsts’, Issue Two takes the theme of ‘Revenge’ as its cue. It seems that part of the human condition is to seek revenge when we feel wronged – no matter how serious or petty the transgression may be. Football is littered with squabbles, altercations, tiffs and spats. In this section, all of those grievances are aired and exorcised.
Phil Juggins takes particular delight in that 7-3 clobbering at Elland Road. It took Pat Riddell a while to get over Neil Webb’s defection to Manchester United. Julie Pritchard reveals what happened when the master of revenge – Roy Keane – was part of a Forest team that went over to Ireland to play a friendly against Keane’s old club – Cobh Ramblers. Nick Miller delights in John Aldridge getting his comeuppance for what he did to Brian Laws. Paul Severn once tried to peel off the name of his favourite player off the back of his replica shirt after we went and flogged him to someone else.
There’s more too:
Imagine if your stepfather was a Derby fan…
What was really behind Billy Davies’ motivation when he returned for The Second Coming?
How Riccardo Scimeca became the protagonist in a surreal brotherly squabble.
You want ‘Revenge’? We’ve got it in spades. And then some. And we haven’t even started on that team from Belgium that play in purple. We’ll get to them though…don’t worry about that. All in good time.
Join us at the Southbank City bar on Thursday 1st December for ‘An Evening with Ian Storey-Moore’. Issue Two will be available to buy on the night – probably still boxfresh from the printers.
Issue Two will be available to buy via the website on the day after – Friday 2nd December. Owing to it being the day of the Newcastle game and being a Friday night, we will not be setting up a stall in any of the surrounding bars to sell copies in person. Ordering via the website is your safest way to acquire a copy of Issue Two. The online shop will open on that day.
In the meantime, whet your appetite for some revenge-based writing by having a read of this.
